Must-read on Sheriff Joe

Celebrated New York Times media columnist David Carr asks a really good policy question in his column this week:  why is Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio-whose county's crime rates are soaring-starring on a "gotcha" stunt show on FOX Reality?  This guy's department just got shellacked for gross incompetence and negligence in a report by the ultraconservative Goldwater Institute!  Although an answer is not supplied in Carr's terrific piece, we will supply it for you: the self-promoting publicity hound is much better at playing a tough sheriff on TV than actually being a tough and effective sheriff.
