Glenn Beck:  WeCanStopTheHate.org is a secret effort to help “Juan” McCain

Kudos to Think Progress for catching Glenn Beck taking a swipe at this website on his January, 31 radio program.  Completely ignoring the information presented here about how hate speech contributes to hate crimes and other abuses, Beck thinks this is an effort to take him off the air before the election to help McCain.  Click here to see the post and listen to a clip:  http://thinkprogress.org/2008/01/31/beck-juan-mccain/

Kudos also to Media Matters for America, which caught Minuteman cofounder Jim Gilchrist on Beck’s program comparing NCLR to the KKK and going after the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center.  Interestingly, Gilchrist was on the program with Mark Krikorian, who runs the Center for Immigration Studies, an offshoot of FAIR and its ilk.  Krikorian frames himself and his organization as simply a think tank presenting information about immigrants.  A think tank?  Presenting objective information without distortion by personal feelings, prejudices, or interpretations?  In all of its years of “research,” the Center for Immigration Studies has never managed to find anything positive to say about immigrants.  How many “think tank” directors appear on hate-filled talk-radio programs with vigilantes?  Makes you think twice when he’s quoted in the mainstream press as an “expert” on immigration, doesn’t it?
